Happy Birthday to us!

A little out of order . . . sorry!

Okay, here is the missing December post--both of our birthdays!  This is why I have a love-hate relationship with December!  Anyway, here are the birthday happenings!

First, Chris . . .
We went to Jacinto's with my parents.  They sang the birthday song.  I hate that, but Chris loves it!  Chris also has a squinting problem.  This was one of three pictures, all of which have his eyes closed.
This was the day that Davis decided to go of liquids altogether.  He is still convinced a sippy cup is poisonous, but he will drink a bottle.
Here is his silly hands-on-his-head move.
Chris with his gifts on the big day.
When your birthday is on a Sunday, your wife has to make a nice dinner for you!
And when Dad is gone, Mom has to come and take the pictures too!
A pretty cute kid joined us for the festivities
We had gyoza--a Davis family favorite

 33!  Man, that is old!
Blowing out the candles on the tres leches cake!

And now Tina . . .
A cute boy helping me open presents
The only picture that Chris took with me and the gifts.  I call this my "chipmunk face."

Davis helped out with rearranging the nativity while I was opening presents.  So nice!
 Presents from my parents

Yay for Davis!  Yay for turning 30!  Yay for the Sandpiper with Mom and Dad!  Yay for not having to cook on my birthday!  Yay for birthdays!  Yay for December!  Yay for it almost being over!

Here are some pictures of Davis with his cousin, Eli, who is 2 months older than he is.  They are so cute!

Christmas in Georgia!

We went to visit Chris's family for Christmas this year.  We had a great time!

On the flight over, Davis fell asleep in Daddy's arms.  BEST. THING. EVER.

This is a little game we call, "drop it."  It's where you pick something up, like this water bottle, and drop it on the ground to see what sound it makes.
Or you can play it with a potato.  So fun!
We constructed a gingerbread house, which was fun!

We opened our Christmas jammies and wore them on Christmas Eve.  I made them.  I am quite proud!

I have SO. MANY. ADORABLE. PHOTOS. of Davis on Christmas morning.  I will spare you the adorableness.  We had a great time.  He was mostly clueless about the whole thing, but wrapping paper was really fun.  And so are bubbles with Grandpa!  As our sister-in-law said, bubbles are always a hit!

The day after Christmas, we took a drive to Telulah Gorge and saw the falls.  Who knew there was something that looked just like Mesa Falls in Georgia?

Davis falling asleep on mommy.  He refused to sleep any other way.  Okay.
On the flight back, we were supposed to sit across the aisle from each other.  A couple traded us for their seats, which was a window and a middle seat.  That is, of course, not as good as two aisles, but better with a baby.  Then they asked for volunteers to take a later flight.  The couple volunteered, and no one took their spot.  So we had three seats for the three of us.  It was great because Davis had room to move around, which was especially wonderful since he also had a three hour car ride ahead of him as well.

We love everyone that we hung out with!  Until we meet again . . . MUAH!

It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas!

Can you believe it is already December?  December is the month that I dread and love!  I love that it is Christmas, but it is also the month of Chris and my birthdays, so it is a little stressful!  And then we have Davis's birthday at the end of November too!

But, all of the shopping for the month is done, so all is well!

I volunteered to have the combined mutual activity at my house tonight.  I didn't think through this and realize that it meant that I would have to be decorated for Christmas by now . . . but I did!  And I did it!

We are having a "white elephant" Christmas gift exchange as part of the party.  We are providing the gifts.  It is SOOOO fun to go to the Dollar Store and pick out the most random things we could find!  And we got a BUNCH of paper sacks, because we did not want to wrap them all!

Turning one

First of all, how can you not love this kid?  He turned ONE on Wednesday!  Here are his stats:
Weight: 24 pounds, 3 ounces
Height: 31 inches
Head circumference: 19 1/4 inches

He is in the 80th percentile for his height and weight category, so he is doing well!

On Wednesday, we gave Davis some presents.  For the most part, he was uninterested.  We had a fun day where we did everything that Davis likes: we went to the library for storytime, and we visited Grandma.  We worked on opening presents, but by the end of the day, only one was opened!

On Saturday, we had a birthday party.  Here are some people who showed up:
Carter and Whitney drove up from Utah!  Here they are with Great Grandma
 And Great Grandpa
And our neighbors that we walk with a lot, the Meservys.  We were glad they could come!
Of course, other people came too!
We got some cakes made by my cousin Kylie.  She did a great job.  As you can tell, the theme was monsters.
This is the smash cake, which of course was BLACK!
The biggest hit of presents was the one from my parents.  Here they are, showing Davis his walker and how to use it:

He opened some more presents too:
And then ate the cake.  At first, he was unsure of what to do with it.  He caught on, though!

Before we threw him in the tub, he had kisses for Mommy and Daddy:

Things I want to remember about Davis at one year:
  • His growl.  Oh, my goodness.  He taught it to himself, and I really don't think it could get any funnier.
  • Davis so such a social child.  He loves to be around people, and loves to talk to people, especially kids!
  • Davis is a picky eater.  He will not take baby cereal without applesauce in it.  He is not convinced that the sippy cup is not poisonous.  He gives the best face if something is yucky!
  • Davis HATES public bathrooms.  The worst is getting changed on a changing table.
  • Davis LOVES our bathroom.  If we kept the door open, he would spend all day in it.
  • Davis's favorite game is dropping things to see what noise they make.  His favorite place to do this is on tile floor.  The other day, he dropped something glass.  It made a great noise as it shattered into a million pieces!  He was so proud of himself.
  • Davis is all about noise.  Besides dropping things, he loves to hear his voice when it echoes.  The garage, entrance to WalMart, and the library are some favorites.
  • He has basically slept through the night since day one!
Like I said at the beginning, how can you not love this boy?!
