Portland

Chris grew up in Portland.  He has always wanted to take me to Portland to see where he grew up.  His friend got married and had a reception, so he decided that it was a perfect opportunity to go see friends.  We left on a Wednesday and came back on Sunday.  It was a very fun trip.  There was a lot of driving, which drove Davis and I a little nutty at times, but we did well overall.

We stopped on our way in Ontario, Oregon.  My mom grew up in Ontario, so it was fun to see the sights.  Her house was up for sale, so we knocked on the door and asked if we could take a look.  It was very fun to see the place where I have so many memories from childhood.
We also went to the cemetery to see the graves of my family members.
Davis was bribed to come take a picture with a cracker.

We spent the night in La Grande on Wednesday, and then went the rest of the way on Thursday.  Davis had a hard time getting to sleep, so Chris helped him.
What a great daddy.  In the night, I got up to use the restroom and was worried that Davis was cold.  I went to pick him up, and he was shivering.  Chris said we should put him in bed with us.

The next day, we drove the rest of the way to Portland.  We stopped to stretch in Arlington, Oregon. There was a cute little park just off the side of the road.  Davis decided that the cool thing to do was to roll down the hill(he learned that from Grandpa the week before), then run to the stairs and walk up and then roll down the hill again.  And then he found the water.  It was SO MEAN of us to not let him soak himself in it!

We saw Chris's old house (and the infamous place where a bush used to live until it was burned by the Rusch boys)
We went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and ate some delicious grilled cheese sandwiches, then went to the coast.  Here we are at the coast.
Here is Chris with his friend, David Weiler
The walk to the coast was beautiful!

Davis found some puddles that he thought were very cool.  He put his forehead in one, just to try it out
When we got to the coast, he was amazed by the sand.  And threw it all over himself.

And then there was the ocean:

The clothes that I thought he would wear to the wedding reception that night?  Yeah, didn't happen.  He was so tired that he took his 2nd nap on the way home.
This is actually a picture of the first nap.  You can tell, because his clothes don't have sand all over them.
Then we went to the wedding reception and saw all of Chris's friends.  Davis made a friend too.
The reception was at a place that reminded Chris of Lord of the Rings:
After the reception, we headed to Pendleton, Oregon and spent the night there so we could go to sacrament meeting.  Then, on Sunday, we made the long drive home.  It was a great and much-needed vacation!

Remodeling phase 1

We decided to redo our bonus/TV room.  We are very excited for this remodel.
Advantages:
  • We are going to put in a toy closet!  Hooray!
  • We are going to have a little tile space at the back door
  • We are going to do the tile by the garage
  • It is not going to have paneling in it any more.  We debated heavily about whether to take out the paneling or not.  We are glad that we decided to do it.
Disadvantages:
  • Not being able to use the garage while the furniture is in it.
  • Not being able to use the room for a little while.  But, in the end it will be worth it!
Here is how the project looks after phase one, which was the removal of EVERYTHING, including the furniture, paneling, and carpet.

June

June is a great month in Idaho!  Here is Davis on the floor at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  I forget what he was doing.  Probably just being silly.
Then we decided to remodel our bonus/TV room.  More on that later.  But, while we were cleaning out the garage, Davis was checking out the hose.  It was squirting water into his mouth.  That is more fun that a little boy can handle.

He completely soaked himself, which resulted in a bath later.
I decided to finally bust out my maternity clothes, at 15 weeks.  Here is my 15 week picture.
So fun!
I went to Girls' Camp.  Here are some selfies that we took in the car before leaving.

It was VERY COLD at Girls' Camp.  I was not planning on it, but I left on Tuesday.  Then I went back for testimony meeting on Thursday night.  Chris came with me, which was very nice.

I also decided that Davis needed some new shoes, because his were DEAD.  I found out that he has grown TWO SIZES since Christmas!  He has certainly put a lot of love into these shoes.  I had to take a picture before I threw them away.  These are his first shoes that he actually wore, and he learned how to walk in them.

A sneak peek

So, I went to the doctor today.  He could not find a heartbeat, so he said that he would have me do an ultrasound.  He said that it is usually hard to find a heartbeat at 13 weeks, so I pretended not to be too worried.  I texted Chris.  He was a little worried too.  But, the ultrasound found a beautiful, healthy baby, who is right on target for his/her due date!  Yay!!  Here is a picture:
Chris thinks he can tell that it is a boy.  What do you think?

18 month stats

We had our 18 month check-up today.  We were going to do it last week, but ended up having tubes put in that day instead!  Here are his stats:
  • Weight: 26 pounds 8 ounces
  • Height: 33 inches
  • Head circumference: 20 inches--that is in the 98.98 percentile!
Things I want to remember about Davis at 18 months:
  • He is usually a very happy guy.
  • He has jobs that need to be done every day: emptying out the toy box, and more importantly, the tupperware cupboard.  This needs to be done every. single. day.
  • He eats pretty much anything.  He lets me know when he wants "mo, mo, mo," which can either mean that he wants more or is done.  When he does NOT want any more of the food I am about to give him, he pushes it away.
  •  He loves to imitate any word that we say.
  • When he is about to get in trouble, he says, "Baby!" because he knows that he won't get in as bad of trouble for saying that.
  • He only drinks water from a Camelbak water bottle.  He has a certain kind of sippy cup that he will drink milk from.
  • He LOVES books, and will bring one to me and sit on my lap any chance he can get.  He likes board books better than real pages.  His favorites are "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?" and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."  He is just like his mommy when she was his age!
We went to visit my mom's parents graves the day before Memorial Day.  Here are some pictures!

  • How can you not love this boy?
